Clearing the Air / Retrofitting

While the need may be driven by any of a number of challenges, STEALTH® Concealment Solutions, Inc. has seen increased demand to retrofit existing concealment sites. Size limitations of an existing site may dictate the need to retrofit to accommodate equipment upgrades. When upgrading antennas, antenna fit can become an issue – and antenna upgrades are imperative, as new technologies emerge.
Today, as a higher degree of frequency performance is needed, the goal of a retrofit project may be increasing transparency. While cosmetic and architectural aspects of a concealment are initial concerns, STEALTH® has always focused on the long-term viability of the site. For STEALTH, structural integrity and cosmetic appeal have always been key, but not at the cost of transparency. Our team is called on by carriers across the country to increase site performance by retrofitting poor performing sites.
The addition of carriers co-locating on a monopole style concealment may require retrofitting if the dimension of the initial coax cable fills too much of the cavity of the concealment. For example, a carrier with a large dimension cable may be positioned at the top of a monopole, leaving less than optimum space for carriers to co-locate lower on the pole.
Over the years, STEALTH has learned not to rely solely on site records. In many cases, equipment may have been changed without updating all documentation. For that reason, site verification is imperative. A visit to the site is the best way to ensure the success of concealment retrofit.
